Lake Oloidien Resort in Naivasha, with its breathtaking views near Lake Naivasha, provided the perfect setting for a dynamic team-building event.
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) at Strathmore University organized this outing to help faculty and administrative staff bond, strategize and sharpen their teamwork skills in a relaxed environment.

The team set out early from Strathmore University, traveling along the Mai Mahiu route. Although the three-hour journey felt longer due to traffic and anticipation, everyone agreed that the destination was worth it. Upon arrival, the serene lakeside views energized the group, setting the stage for the planned activities.
The day began with light exercises and a lively Zumba session before breakfast. After a hearty meal, participants were divided into four teams: Simba, Jowi, Sungura and Baba.
Team Baba, initially the underdog, displayed remarkable perseverance and teamwork, gradually climbing the leaderboard and eventually winning the coveted trophy, generously provided by Yana Trekkers, the event organizers.

The friendly competition brought laughter and fun, especially with some playful mishaps. During the quiz segment, Jeremiah’s comical responses caused Team Sungura to lose points, adding humor to the challenge.
Staff members also showcased hidden talents: Crystal Wanjau impressed as an emerging DJ, Berita Kimanthi demonstrated remarkable karate agility, Anne Rose excelled as the “blindfold crawler,” Miguel Fernández amazed everyone with his Spanish floor-dancing moves, and Martin Githaiga revealed his knack for stand-up comedy.

Stealing the spotlight, Dr. James Nyawo was crowned dancer of the day, wowing everyone with his African dance moves—though the steps clearly require some practice and aren’t for first-timers!”
Team Jowi, confident in their prowess, fueled the friendly rivalry, while Jeremiah humorously voiced his dissatisfaction with the results.
Alex Mbongo, a Strathmore University alumnus and experienced coach, led the SHSS team, focusing on intellectual and strategic challenges rather than physical exertion.
He emphasized effective communication, brainstorming, strategic thinking, teamwork, active listening and attention to detail. Alex also recognized his former lecturers, Dr. John Branya and Patrick Micheni, who were part of the team.
These exercises enhanced problem-solving, leadership and team unity, reflecting Strathmore’s core values.

The day also included a warm celebration of staff members with November birthdays, complete with cake and shared moments of joy. This further strengthened camaraderie among the team. The event concluded with a prayer before the journey back to Nairobi.

Special thanks go to Dr. Magdalene Dimba, Dean of SHSS, Anne Rose Ndehi, Caleb Kandagor and the entire SHSS team for their dedication in making the event seamless and impactful.
The outing celebrated the core values of SHSS and Strathmore University: Collaboration, Strategic thinking and leadership. Participants left energized and united by a shared declaration: “We are SHSS to the World, and we are Strathmore University.”
